AA is an adult's solution, reached after the damage.
An adult hits the wall, chooses the program, picks a sponsor, and counts their own sober days. Every step assumes a person who owns their own time and can choose to change.
A child's dependencies are cultivated before that autonomy exists.
Sugar and screens arrive during the formative years, often through the very institution that controls the child's timetable.
Sweets as rewards. Tablets in classrooms. Homework locked inside apps. Behaviour managed through incentives, repetition, and compliance.
Then adulthood arrives, and we tell the person to take responsibility for habits they never independently chose.
We institutionalize the exposure in childhood and individualize the recovery in adulthood.
Who gets the twelve-step program for the institutions?
