Before Morgan could even put his evidence before the justice of the peace, Ontario Crown lawyers intervened. Crown Mohamed Salama first sought an adjournment, partly because Morgan's side had subpoenaed the SIU records concerning Meyer. When Morgan refused to adjourn, senior Crown lawyer Milan Rupic advised that Ontario would instead stay the private prosecution. On December 5 he confirmed in writing that the Crown would attend court and stay it. According to the reporting, no reason for the stay was given to the court.
