The crime story that keeps coming out isn't "crime is out of control."
It's cops getting caught.
And if cops are getting caught misconducting themselves in significant numbers, that's not evidence the system is working. It's evidence of a massive supervision problem.
These are employees entrusted with detention powers, weapons and the legal authority to use deadly force against private citizens. Yet cities pour enormous amounts of payroll into policing while apparently failing at the most basic management function: supervising the people exercising those powers.
You wouldn't give an unsupervised employee authority to physically restrain customers.
We give cops guns, handcuffs and coercive state power.
Then we discover what they've been doing after the fact.
That's not public safety.
That's an extraordinarily expensive public-safety hazard.
