Canada's courts have perfected a constitutional trick:
Affirm the right.
Praise the right.
Then build precedent explaining when the state can override it.
The Charter gets the treatment. First Nations rights get it relentlessly.
Recognition → interpretation → exceptions → erosion.
When the state claiming sovereignty also controls the courts defining the limits of Indigenous sovereignty, "rights" remain trapped inside the legal architecture of the power they were supposed to restrain.
