Police sell us silver bullets made of lead.
The lie is overt. The coercion is overt. The budgets are overt. But admitting that would mean admitting we've spent decades delegating social problems instead of building social capacity.
Housing crisis? Police.
Mental-health crisis? Police.
Poverty? Police.
Addiction? Police.
Homelessness? Police.
We keep kicking the can down the road because building care, housing and community capacity requires actually doing something.
Police offer the silver bullet.
Then someone in crisis gets the lead one.
And we still get billed for silver.
