Maturity is the ability to decline without needing to justify the refusal.
It is learning that "no" is a complete boundary, not the opening bid in a negotiation. You do not have to attend every invitation, accept every opportunity, answer every provocation, maintain every relationship, participate in every institution, or explain yourself until the other person approves of your decision.
Immaturity confuses participation with obligation. Maturity recognizes agency.
