Canada classified Indigenous political existence as a potential security threat, produced secret knowledge from that classification, and now claims exclusive authority over how much of that knowledge the people surveilled may recover. Redaction continues the surveillance relationship: the state sees the person, while the person is forbidden from seeing what the state made of them.
